Designed Object Analysis

About Asymmetrical Layouts:

For this assignment, I have to revisit the thumbnails I did before and choose two and copy them to a larger piece of paper, where every measurement is doubled. It is so strange to see bigger versions of my thumbnails. For this assignment, the decision to choose which type of text to put into my layout depends on the element in that layout. When working with the primary elements, I prefer to choose text that is bold and big so it would stand out as a primary element. I also consider the direction of the text I will put on, and that depends on what direction I want my audience to see. For secondary and smaller elements, I use smaller text. For the object, I try to find the objects that are best fit to my elements. This is important because if I cannot arrange in the right way, the audience would not be able to distinguish the elements.

About Pillowfort:

The strangest project that I have ever had so far is to build a pillow fort. This project gave me more realizations than I thought. I live in residence, therefore, I have limited space and furniture. I struggled for a while trying to find enough materials to build the fort and think of how I could use the small space I have. Eventually, I figured it out with help from a friend. Throughout this project, I learn how to utilize the space and the furniture we have. Moreover, how to use different pieces of objects that seem like they are unrelated to create 3D shapes which can contribute to the fort. Also, I have a chance to experience “looking at different angles”. After finishing building the fort, I walked around the fort, from the left to the right, standing on my bed to get the top view. By doing this, I can see which part of the fort needs to be fixed and what different things I could see from each angle I took. After a while, I got inside the fort and I was surprised by what I saw and felt. I have never built a pillow fort before so I always wondered why people like it so much. After getting inside the fort, I finally understand why. It is the closure feeling you get, the “walls” surrounding you, the “roof” covers at the top, I feel like I am being protected and it feels really comfortable. The lighting inside is definitely different from the outside. I did not put a lot of things inside so there is not much to see inside, what really matters is the atmosphere or the feeling inside the fort is so different from the outside. This assignment is both enjoyable and valuable.
